My weekend has mainly been spent…

Part of the Weekends category.

Bleak wilting hydrangeas
  • Hoping for a lie-in. We’re gently trying to encourage Jesse to take himself downstairs on a Saturday morning. Everything was going well until he decided to surprise his dad with a cup of coffee. He knows not to boil the kettle unsupervised, so he used cold water, but was then very upset when it all went wrong!
  • Re-making said cup of coffee.
  • Curling up on the sofa with a hot mug of tea.
  • Dragging myself into the shower.
  • Pulling on jeans and a jumper, drying my hair, and grabbing a quick breakfast.
  • Rushing to my optician appointment.
  • Picking out two new pairs of specs.
  • Heading home for lunch.
  • Making carrot and coriander soup.
  • Struggling with Jesse’s behaviour. I think the return to school last week has made him over-tired and grumpy.
  • Watching Goosebumps on Netflix.
  • Cooking up an Indian feast. I made Chana Dal, Chana Masala {or Workers Curry} and improvised my own Masala Fries by loosely following this recipe.
  • Eating too much.
  • Getting Jesse ready for bed. We’ve been doing the Calm app’s child-friendly guided meditations together every evening and we’re both big fans. It definitely seems to help him get off to sleep a little quicker.
  • Watching a few episodes of Friends with Izzy. She’s completely hooked and cannot understand how we ever managed to wait a week between shows!
  • Persuading Mr L.A. to watch Bridge of Spies. I adore Tom Hanks, but the movie was too long and very slow.
  • Collapsing into bed.
  • Sleeping in.
  • Heading downstairs for a cup of tea.
  • Making myself a bowl of porridge while the others ate fried egg and bacon sandwiches.
  • Pottering around the house.
  • Speed-cleaning the bathroom.
  • Catching up on laundry.
  • Eating leftovers for lunch.
  • Disappearing upstairs to do some work.
  • Agonising over my new About page.
  • Relaxing on the sofa.
  • Mixing up a Mexican marinade. I adapted this Vegan Pibil recipe, pairing it with cauliflower instead. Once roasted, we used it to stuff soft bread rolls along with smashed avo, spinach and quick pickled onions. Delicious!
  • Jumping in the shower.
  • Pulling on clean PJs.
  • Supervising Jesse in the bath.
  • Giving goodnight kisses.
  • Steam-mopping the kitchen and cleaning the hob.
  • Sitting down to watch Bride of Chucky. Mr L.A. was given the complete Blu-ray box set for Christmas, so we’re slowly working our way through the franchise.
  • Reading 1984 before bed.

P.S. A retro weekend from this time last year.
