  • Sleeping in.
  • Waking up slowly with a cup of tea on the sofa.
  • Grabbing a quick shower.
  • Catching up on some housework.
  • Vowing to make the most of our final day without the kids.
  • Treating ourselves to brunch at The Lock Up.
  • Very much enjoying my eggs hollandaise with kale, mushrooms and homemade hash browns.
  • Wandering home via the park.
  • Resting on the sofa.
  • Greeting our friend Rich at the door.
  • Sitting outside in the sun while Mr L.A. built our new BBQ.
  • Looking forward to using it for the first time. We just need to get hold of the right gas canister.

  • Waiting for our friends, Emily and Sam, to arrive.
  • Saying goodbye to the men.
  • Driving to Bath with Em.
  • Parking up and taking a stroll in the early evening sunshine.
  • Admiring the abbey.
  • Mentally planning a return trip with the kids.
  • Grabbing a table for dinner at Prezzo.
  • Eating our combined bodyweight in pasta and cheese.
  • Heading back to Emily’s house for a sleepover.
  • Snacking on sweets and staying up far too late.
  • Reminiscing about the ‘old days’ in Exeter.
  • Feeling very lucky to have such wonderful friends.
  • Enjoying my last lie-in for a while.
  • Sipping tea in Emily’s kitchen.
  • Getting ready to face the day.
  • Eating a cinnamon and raisin bagel smothered in butter.
  • Making our way back to Bristol.
  • Catching up with the men and making plans for another gathering very soon.
  • Saying goodbye at the door.
  • Waiting for my in-laws to arrive with the children.
  • Preparing a huge Indian feast. I made Paneer Butter Masala, Spinach with Black Pepper, Garlic and Lemon, and Tamarind and Caramelised Red Onion Rice. More deliciousness from Meera Sodah’s two books, Made in India* and Fresh India*.
  • Greeting the children when they came rushing in.
  • Hugging them over and over again.
  • Listening to tales of all their adventures over the last week.
  • Sitting down to lunch.
  • Eating too much.
  • Chatting with my mother-in-law.
  • Clearing up the kitchen.
  • Saying goodbye to Mr L.A.’s parents.
  • Vegging out on the sofa while everyone else played board games.
  • Feeding the children beans on toast for their tea.
  • Running Jesse a bubble bath.
