I love reading ‘monthly favourites’ on other blogs, but have always lacked the discipline to commit to a similar series myself. Perhaps 2013 will be year? I’ll never know until I try. So, here are a few of the beauty products I’ve been reaching for, and loving, over the last few weeks…
1. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 005 Crush ~ Definitely my most worn lip product of the last month, this applies as a rich berry shade, but fades to a rosy pink stain. Personally, I could do without its fresh, minty scent, but I love the longevity and the fact it isn’t at all drying. I’ll be investigating the other shades next time I’m in Boots.
2. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation ~ Technically, this product has been a favourite for much longer than just the last month. I’ve been wearing it for almost a year and nothing can sway my loyalty. I use a Real Techniques Stippling Brush to apply, buffing the foundation in to create a natural, soft, glowy finish. Although I would say this provides medium coverage, and is very buildable, it really does look like my skin but better. It lasts reasonably well on my skin too, perhaps requiring just a light dusting of powder half way through the afternoon.
3. Soap & Glory The Breakfast Scrub ~ I’ve never been a huge fan of the Soap & Glory range, finding the products sickly sweet and a little cloying, but this has cemented itself as part of my daily shower ritual. The smell is foodie, but not overpowering, reminding me of honey, vanilla and, as the name suggests, deliciously inviting breakfast goods. I like a robust scrub and this delivers, leaving my skin smooth and beautifully soft.
4. Phyto Haircare ~ My hair and I have been through a rough time of late. Nothing I used in the last 12 months seemed to suit. From high end to drugstore, I just couldn’t find a range of products that made my hair feel as it should. Having endured greasy roots, dry ends and an irritated scalp, I’d almost given up hope. Then I read this post by London Makeup Girl. After a brief twitter consultation, I followed Grace’s advice to the letter and picked up the shampoo and conditioner from the Phytocitrus range, along with a tube of Phyto 9.
After the first wash, my hair felt like new. Soft, clean, and shiny. My scalp feels comfortable too, which after months of lumps, bumps and irritation was nothing short of a miracle. The Phyto 9 is the real standout product for me though. Designed for dehydrated hair, it’s silicone free and packed with plenty of truly nourishing ingredients, including macadamia oil, rosemary and sage. I apply a pea sized amount through damp hair after washing. It smooths, protects and definitely keeps frizz and split ends at bay. The Phyto range is stocked in my local John Lewis, but it’s also readily available from Feel Unique.
