My weekend has mainly been spent…

  • Feeling grateful for a lie-in. The children slept until after 8am and I felt incredibly rested when we finally made our way downstairs.
  • Being very lazy. Breakfast was slow and leisurely and I stayed in my pyjamas until after midday.
  • Sipping tea and eating chocolate. Green & Blacks Sea Salt is my current addiction.
  • Watching Izzy read and write, and then write some more. She is prolific, even more so since she acquired her new desk.
  • Snuggling under a blanket on the sofa.
  • Eating soup and warm toasted bagels for lunch.
  • Reading. Mr. LA gifted me a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas and it’s hardly left my hands since. I’m completely hooked on The Snow Child at the moment, but I also picked up copies of Homemaker magazine and The Simple Things which have made for lovely bedtime reading.
  • Watching movies with the children. We made mugs of hot chocolate and turned off all the lights before we all got comfy on the sofa.
  • Slyly dozing off while the children remained engrossed in what they were watching.
  • Explaining New Year resolutions to Izzy. I quite like the ones she came up with for herself.
  • Cooking a meal that contained no Christmas leftovers.
  • Putting the children to bed.
  • Trying to write, but giving up when the words just wouldn’t come. I guess some days just aren’t meant for writing.
  • Listening to Mr. LA watching The Hunger Games downstairs.
  • Enjoying some new skin care from Clarins.
  • Climbing into bed and reading until I fell asleep.
  • Sleeping late again. It’s going to be very difficult to go back to our usual routine next week. It feels like I haven’t seen 6am in a very long time.
  • Eating omelets for breakfast.
  • Wishing Mr. LA didn’t have to work on a Sunday.
  • Taking a quick shower while Izzy and Jesse played happily together.
  • Slipping into a favourite dress.
  • Watching the children put on a play in their bedroom.
  • Marking dates on my new wall planner from Lollipop Designs.
  • Making sandwiches for lunch.
  • Secretly munching chocolate fingers in the kitchen. If the children don’t see then I don’t have to share.
  • Taking a long walk to the quay. The river was high and much of our usual path was shut off due to flooding, but we managed to make our way round nonetheless.
  • Looking at the sky. It was dark and stormy in places, but bright blue and cloudless in others. Beautiful.
  • Browsing the local antique shops.
  • Talking about the future. Impossible to avoid the subject on the cusp of a new year I find.
  • Heading home for a cup of tea.
  • Cooking and eating fish pie for supper.
  • Drinking red wine.
  • Settling in for a restful evening.
  • Thinking about 2013 and what it might hold for me and my family.

  1. ‘The Snow Child’ is wonderful – I was absolutely hooked and am afraid some housewifely duties may have been neglected as I kept turning back to the story at every opportunity!

  2. I don’t think it’ll ever replace books totally for me, but I am loving the convenience of it. Although the whole one-click ordering thing could get dangerous!

Good luck with the early starts, they’ll be painful at first but we’ll get used to them again!

  3. Love The Simple Things magazine. I run a little bespoke bunting business in Kent and we managed to get a teeny tiny ad in there! I felt super proud – a proper, honest-to-goodness magazine!!
